Welcome to the 2026 Tennis with a Heart charity tournament—now in our 15th year—presented by Ocean Edge Services and TechnipFMC, with all proceeds benefiting Texas Children’s Hospital and the American Heart Association.
I am proud to serve again as your tournament director for this exciting and worthwhile event. During the past few years, charities were hit particularly hard by lower public donations, first by the pandemic and then by inflation. They need our help.
Join us Saturday, November 7, at the Clubs of Kingwood for a day of fun, food, sun, entertainment, old friends, new friends, and a lot of tennis...all for vital causes.
Texas Children’s Hospital: Committed to Healthy Children by Providing the Finest Pediatric Care
Texas Children’s Hospital is a not-for-profit organization that has been serving young patients with state-of-the-art care in Houston since May 1953. On any given day, Texas Children’s Hospital will treat 7,500 children. On an annual basis, they have 2.7 million patient encounters.
The “Best Children’s Hospitals,” by U.S. News & World Report perennially places Texas Children’s Hospital on the Honor Roll of best pediatric institutions. Texas Children’s is the only hospital in Texas—and the entire Southern region of the U.S.—awarded this distinction.
In addition to ranking children’s hospitals overall, U.S. News & World Report also ranks the top 50 pediatric hospitals in each of 10 major subspecialty areas including cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; diabetes and endocrinology; gastroenterology and GI surgery; neonatology; nephrology (kidney); neurology and neurosurgery; orthopedics; pulmonology; and urology.
Last year, Texas Children’s ranked in the top 20 for every category—eight specialties in the top 10—and number one in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery and for pulmonology.
We are extremely fortunate that Houston is home to one of the finest complete-care pediatric hospitals anywhere in the country.
The American Heart Association: Heart-Health Research, Awareness, Education, Advocacy, and Treatment
Each year, heart disease tops the list of this country’s most serious health problems. Here in Greater Houston, over 35% of all deaths are attributable to cardiovascular disease.
Cardiovascular disease is the cause of more deaths than the next five causes combined, including cancer, old age, pneumonia, diabetes, automobile or other accidents.
Consider some recent statistics released by the American Heart Association:
Says the Cleveland Clinic: “...Playing [tennis] on a regular basis is good for your heart. It’s also good for the body and mind. In fact, playing tennis on a regular basis produces physical, physiologic and psychologic benefits. These benefits include increased burning of calories, reduction in blood pressure and reduced stress. All of these benefits play a role in reducing a person’s risk of developing heart disease, the number-one killing disease among men and women.”
Tennis is one of the few sports where the entire family can join together for fun and healthy exercise. You’ll find tennis players ranging in age from 4 to 94. Tennis can be recreational, social, or competitive; it can be learned at almost any age; and it can be played casually at community courts, or a myriad of options are available to play in organized activities.
Few recreational sports that adults commonly engage in are as good for cardiovascular health as tennis. USTA statistics show that about 11% of young adults play tennis at least occasionally, as do 22% of middle-aged adults and 35% of adults over 50. The sport of tennis and the American Heart Association is a natural fit.
