Join Us November 11, 2023, at the Giammalva Racquet Club
|
This year Victor Pinones and the fabulous Giammalva Racquet Club are hosting our annual charity tournament on Saturday, November 11. With the record-breaking summer we’ve had, who isn’t ready for a beautiful fall day full of good tennis, good food, good friends, and good fun?
In 2023 the tournament is once again presented thanks to Ocean Edge Services and TechnipFMC, and all proceeds will benefit the Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center and the Houston Chapter of the American Heart Association.
Our commitment to the Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center and the American Heart Association is important to us. And we know it is to you, too. They need all the help they can get right now.
Also important to us is that you know no administrative or personnel fees are collected from the event. We’re all volunteers. Our sponsorships and tournament fees cover direct expenses only, with every remaining dime going to our charities. One visit to the Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center will tell you that the money goes to vitally important use.
Team Captains, lead the way! Form a team, decide on your level of play, get your players committed, get creative with your team name (well, not too creative...we are a family-friendly event), and register today.
You need a minimum of two women and two men on each team, with no more than six players total. In every team match you will be playing one line each of men’s and women’s doubles, and two lines of mixed doubles.
Your entry fee of $75 per person includes everything from a player packet and program, to the sought-after, limited edition, collectible, commemorative event T-shirt, to food (lunch will be served from the famous Giammalva Racquet Club Restaurant & Wine Bar) and refreshments throughout the tournament. A Saturday of all the tennis fun you can handle. Plus trophies for the winners!
Want to play in the tournament, but don’t have a team? Not a problem! Register as an individual player, and we’ll find a team at your level that needs you.
Most importantly, your registration fee benefits the Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center and the American Heart Association.

We are happy to announce that SPIR STAR® AG has returned in 2022 as a sponsor for Tennis with a Heart, supporting the American Heart Association and the Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center.
SPIR STAR® AG, headquartered in Rimbach-Mitlechtern, Germany, is your specialist for the manufacture of thermoplastic ultra-high-pressure hoses with spiralized steel-wire reinforcement for a working pressure range of 250 to 4.000 bar (5.800 to 58.000 psi) and inner diameters ranging from 3 to 32 mm.
The company began in 1981 as part of PAPUREX GmbH in Mörlenbach-Mumbach. At that time, the company manufactured its ultra-high-pressure hoses using special machinery the company had designed and built itself. The hoses were sold under the brand name of SPIR STAR®. Production grew so rapidly that in the year 1987 the company relocated to a new production site in nearby Mörlenbach. Due to continued growth, the division of thermoplastic ultra-high-pressure hose production was spun off completely in the year 1989 and SPIR STAR® Druckschläuche GmbH was founded.
The company’s internationalization and thus increasing demand eventually enabled the company to relocate to its present facility in the year 2001. Since then, ultra-high-pressure hoses have been produced with state-of-the-art machinery and equipment and the hoses have become a staple in the Waterblast, Hydraulics, Oil & Gas and Automotive industries. In addition to this, the continuous development of new and innovative hose types ensures the company’s sustainable presence in its relevant markets.
For more than 30 years, SPIR STAR® has been offering premium product quality – Made in Germany – combined with forward-looking innovation and outstanding customer service.

Breaking News: For the first time in our 11-year history, we’re adding the increasingly popular sport of pickleball to the tournament. Tennis and pickleball will be operated as two separate tournaments occurring simultaneously on Saturday, November 12. We’re doubling the fun!
The Tennis with a Heart annual charity tournament is back in 2022 for its 11th year, and it’s bigger and better than ever. Presented by Ocean Edge Services and TechipFMC, the event will be November 12 at the fabulous Kingwood Country Club. All proceeds will benefit the Houston Chapter of the American Heart Association and the Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center.
We held the first Tennis with a Heart charity tournament in 2011. The idea stemmed from a conversation early that year between tournament director Raouf Hadad, OES COO, and John Gremp, then the President and CEO of FMC Technologies, regarding the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk and the participation of their respective organizations.
Hurricane Harvey put a damper on 2017, but we’ve held the tournament every year other than that and, to date, have raised over $320,000 for our charities...and played a lot of great tennis and made really great friends along the way. Let’s keep it going!
By popular request and the help of the Clubs of Kingwood and their Director of Racquet Sports, John Kudrick, we’re adding pickleball to the schedule for the first time. Pickleball was invented in 1965 as a new way to entertain kids who were bored with the usual summertime activities. Since then, it has exploded in popularity throughout North America and is growing internationally, as well. Just this week, the Tennis Channel is televising the professional pickleball tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada.
For more information about pickleball, visit USA Pickleball at USAPickleball.org. As they describe it succinctly, “The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.”
We will have three skill-level divisions for pickleball: UTPR ratings of 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0+ (4.0 and higher). Tennis NTRP skill divisions will continue to be 3.5, 4.0, and Open (4.5+); however, we may adjust the brackets based upon the players registered in order to provide competitive matches and comparable levels of skill. Last year, for example, we had 13 teams register in the Open division so split it into NTRP 4.5 and 5.0+. The tennis and pickleball tournaments will be separate but played concurrently. There will be separate draws, schedules, and all flight winners will receive trophies.
Read the tournament announcement email, and if you aren’t already on our mailing list, be sure to subscribe here. We never share the list, and will only ever email you in a 90-day period surrounding the annual tournament.
We look forward to seeing you in November!
With more than 120 players, the 2021 tournament set a participation record and raised over $20,000
Taking a moment before hitting the courts early Saturday morning, November 6, the players of the 2021 Tennis with a Heart annual charity tournament. Click image for larger version.
In perhaps Houston’s best weather of the year, over 120 men and women gathered for a full day of tennis to raise funds for the Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center and the American Heart Association. The 10th anniversary Tennis with a Heart annual charity tournament raised, even in the times of COVID19, over $20,000 for its charities last Saturday, bringing the cumulative total to a little more than $320,000.
First played in 2011 and stemming from an idea originated by tournament director Raouf Hadad and John Gremp, former CEO of TechnipFMC, the fast-paced team format is designed to give players plenty of court time and friendly competition, and to afford sponsor organizations visibility at the event and year-round on the tournament’s website.
Presented by Ocean Edge Services and TechnipFMC and held at the Clubs of Kingwood, this year’s sponsors included, among other donors and volunteers:
Congratulations to our winning teams in the four NTRP skill levels and five brackets:
And a special thanks to John Kudrick, Director of Tennis at the Clubs of Kingwood. John has been a good friend to the tournament and its charities since the inception in 2011, and was instrumental in moving the event to the fabulous Kingwood Country Club.
Tennis is fantastic exercise, but all of our bodies can all use a little help along the way. That’s why, with an office close by the Clubs of Kingwood, we’re delighted to welcome Hamel Chiropractic and Wellness as an Aces Level Sponsor for our 10th Anniversary tournament in 2021.
